ariel pink's haunted graffiti - Round And Round
It's been a long time coming but Ariel Pink finally offers some new material with the lead single for his 'Before Today' LP. Apparently these tracks, along with the rest of the album, were recorded in Tito Jackson's former home studio with Quincy Jones' grandson Sunny Levine and previous Iggy Pop and Brain Wilson producer Rik Pekkonen, which is good to know, isn't it? For a start, 'Round And Round' is startlingly polished for an Ariel Pink track. Gone are the fuzzy 4-track textures and slapdash edits, and in with some super slick studio techniques meaning his harmonies now sound closer to The Beach Boys than ever. It's kinda like witnessing him grow from scruffy teenager to self-aware adult in the space of one track. But, with that said, 'Mistaken Wedding' regresses back to the Ariel we know and love with vocals half-buried under what sounds like two different tracks playing at once.
