Switching prisms from the trip-house visions of his Honest Jons 12", Actress lays down three immense future boogie cuts for Instra:mental's NonPlus label. His versatile talent swaggers all over these tracks, nudging and preening his patterns Zomby-style like some G in the mirror making sure his appearance is truly road-worthy. That's not to say these tracks are vain or overworked, but more handsome, well considered and seriously fly as f*ck. 'Machine and Voice' is given to the longer A-side, doing the robo-strut with glints of John Robie-engineered funk factored for 2010 with a reserved minimalism. On the flip 'Loomin' jams on a wickedly discordant sci-fi vibe, setting a scene deep in the funk factory where whirring mechanisms rivet pneumatic snares into glossy metallic synth alloys, unfortunately finishing before we get to see the end product roll off the line. Finally 'Und U Boat' reminds of classic squashed beats beats with a pendulous slow swing guided by thick subs and a reflective melody. The man can do no wrong - Highly Recommended!
