golden triangle - Double Jointer
Brooklyn's Golden Triangle are a sextet comprising three boys and three girls, all uniting under the banner of trashy, glamorous garage rock. Musically the obvious cues would be the likes of Vivian Girls and Thee Oh Sees, and you can hear the familiar production tendencies of the various In The Red and Woodsist bands giving these songs a context within the current scene. Golden Triangle sound a tad less ramshackle than most, however, and they're a powerful sounding bunch too - the two female vocalists Carly Rabelais and Vashti Windish are given a solid platform by the remaining four musicians, with shuffling numbers like 'I Want To Know' introducing a certain authoritative, hip-swinging presence, while 'Jellyroll' is a more dramatically charged affair, propelling itself with a heavily overdriven, almost shoegaze-like presence. The album draws to a close on top form, wrapping up with the muscular pun-rock of 'Arson Wells', spiralling off into the ether with strangulated amp echo and strands of guitar feedback. Good stuff.
