Making his debut for Miasmah, Frederik Ness Sevendal emerges from the Oslo experimental scene with an album of drone-folk instrumentals and psychedelic guitar excursions for the excellent Miasmah imprint. Over the course of six multi-layered, home-recorded recordings Sevendal references the spirit of '70s experimental acid-folk and the classic lo-fi underground sounds of early Charalambides. 'Silence To Say Hello' merges raga-like acoustic strumming with warbling, tremolo electric tones and dainty xylophone sounds. It al makes for a trance-inducing opening ten minutes, leaving the dissonant drone scrawl of 'Sappélur' to dislodge you with a touch of psychedelic distortion. The next long-form piece is 'Wooden Leg', an outstanding nine-minute track featuring vocals and a Six Organs/Espers-style devotion to the sort of cosmic folk Comus made back in their hey-day. Scratchy, tape-spun tones abound from the excellent 'I Think She's Asleep' and 'Dream', while finale 'Flaggermusvingers Vift I Dimmet' makes a soaring amplified din, the like of which Yellow Swans would surely be proud of. Another strong showing from the excellent Miasmah label.
