Paying off on the promise of the 'Distance' 10", (which was picked up by everyone from Kode 9 to Fly Lo) Computer Jay packs off 'Maintain' backed with remixes from Falty DL, Ikonika and Mike Slottt. The dizzying original took us about three plays to find the right tempo, but once we found its vocoder-boogie groove it sticks in the head like a government-planted microchip. Falty DL only enhances the what-speed? effect with his hyper-garage mix, spiralling the vocal and melody along the scale until it's almost uncomfortable but just about maintaining the funk. By comparison, Mike Slott's laidback mix on the flip sound pedestrian but Ikonika shocks to the core with her cyborG-funk version, giving a saccharine-silicone overhaul made to electrify the dance. This is one strange bit of boogie!!!
