roots manuva - Colossal Insight (Jammer Mix)
Back a good twopointfive years to the last album 'Run Come Save Me' dropped and Roots was praised as uk hip hop's saviour. Since then the hype that Dizzee caught might have been a reason why Roots has stayed tight lipped since. Then again on 'Colossal Insight' he drops insight ala "I don't give a damn about UK rap" - the track is a wobbly electronic headnod throbba with Roots singing in a funny style on the chorus and rapping in a wickedly catchy style that will stick in your head for hours after you first hear it. >>> On the 12" version it's joined by an instrumental version and an accapella. The flipside brings a Part 2 remix (please bring a new New Flesh elpee in the 05), a sparse bumpa with grit buzz bass, a slow handclap - a dope rasspa. UK grimey tech garage master Jammer hooks up a new Roots vocal on his two mixes. The first mix is so dope - dropping a offbeat riddim and sneaky vocal and a slightly spooky synth melody - baad. The second mix straightens out the rhythm while wrapping it up a deadly mess of textures - hot. Can't wait to hear the 'Awfully Deep' album when it's released at the end of this month. Check.
