sonar base - Transmissions From Beyond Hoag’s Object [Episode II]
So here’s a bit of a history lesson for you. In 1997 Sonar Bass put together their first release - a rare as hen’s teeth double pack for U-Trax, the final release from this formative label in the early dutch scene. Only a handful of DJ’s, including Scsi’s Daz Quayle, Andrew Weatherall and the most hardcore electro heads managed to pick up a copy of this semi-mythical release. In the long time since, the man behind Sonar Base (Frank de Groodt) has kept himself busy with his respected Fastgraph project for Klakson, last heard in the uk on Craig Richard’s Fabric CD. This new twelve, though, will have you spinning on your head – none of your weakheart big beat electro here, just the real deal, prime materials making it self-evident across the six tracks here, that Frank de Groodt has been holding back some of his best material for just this time and place in the Scsi-av story. Expect no frills dyed in the wool electro: people often cite the Drexciyan axis with scant regard for actuality – here the comparison is dignified and entirely justified. These are electro joints able to mash any floor in the world with clinical ease – deceptive melodies disguise a mighty bass assault, as applicable in miami as it is in the hague. Huge!
