neon neon - Raquel (With Hot Chip Mix)
A belter of a pop single from Boom Bip and Gruff Rhys' Neon Neon project, this song starts off like a lost Erasure A-side only to evolve into a muscular New Order-style electronic pop masterclass. It's tremendous stuff, loaded with killer melodies and thankfully, no hint of irony. On this CD format you get both the radio edit and the full length cut. Also thrown into the bargain is the Spank Rock collaboration 'Trick For Treat' (which was the previous single, if you recall) which is lined up alongside a Hot Chip remix, which takes something of a departure from their usual modus operandi, instead evoking a vaguely crunky hip hop tone with no small amount of success.
