LA's Dibiase makes good on the promise of his split 7" with Low Limit and the more recent All City 10", giving 5 of his best for the Fat City posse on 'Cakeology'. Dibiase is one of those enviably talented MPC operators who can work out far more swing than your average cat, making all the obvious comparisons to Dilla, Madlib and Ras G entirely valid. There's shreds of buttered electro-soul, Brazilian stuff and spooling bleeps galore, tied with plenty of crazy samples and arranged with a proper hiphop classicist sensibility that should grab the nuts of old skool heads, and fans of the new skool hustle like Alexander Nut's radio shows or the recent Ilum Sphere izzle. Ace.
