lindstrom & christabelle - Real Life Is No Cool
Norway's prodigious space cadet, Lindstrøm, increases his already burgeoning credentials with an album of celestial disco pop featuring longtime vocal collaborator Christabelle aka Isabelle H. Sandoo. The clear-headed disco fiends among you will recognise Isabelle from their 'Music In My Mind' and 'Let's Practise' singles, besides the Vangelis cover 'Let It Happen', all of which appear on 'Real Life Is No Cool'. So, it's probably the seven new tracks and the bonus disc of remixes from Aeroplane, Prins Thomas, Idjut Boys, Sally Shapiro, Dølle Jølle and Fan Death that you want to know about, right? Working with a vocalist proper puts this album closer to a Pop realisation than many of his previous album outings, from the magically arpeggiated sequences of 'Looking For What' to the outright anthem 'Lovesick', and crystalline 80's sparkle of 'Keep It Up', giving this set the immediacy and sheen of a prime John Hughes movie score. As the fun spreads onto the 2nd disc, Aeroplane turn up a stomping bassline-driven mix of 'Baby Can't Stop', Sally Shapiro (or probably more correctly Johan Agebjorn) stuns us cold with a masterpiece of surging NRG disco-trance and Dølle Jølle remixes 'So Much Fun' as bleeping tribal shaker.
