The second Explorer's Club single from Loaf' follows on from a very strong first installment (featuring Sweet Billy Pilgrim, Peter Broderick and Ryan Teague) with three more varied offerings, led by an epic piece of abstract electronica from Minotaur Shock and J Underwood. This has to be one of the more unusual A-sides doing the rounds at the moment, its rumbling, flickering electroacoustics rendered all the more out of place by the very poppy, conventional songwriting of Snowbird (Simon Raymonde and Stephanie Dosen), whose 'Where Foxes Hide' marks a foray into mainstream folksy crooning. Changing tack once again, 'Coffee Train Girl' by Smile Down Upon Us makes like Steve Reich on holiday in Bali, traipsing through looping gamelan-styled rhythms while wispy vocals sail above.
