harmonia & eno '76 / shackleton / appleblim - Harmonia & Eno '76 (Shackleton / Appleblim & Komonazmuk Mixes)
To say we're excited by this release would be a slight understatement, somthing we're not used to. So, yeah, it's a bit of wet dream that some A&R genius has had the foresight to connect the dots between the kosmiche music of Rother, Moebius and Eno in '76, with the magic of Shackleton in 2009. We can almost hear odd cries of "unlikely bedfellows?!" from some, but the similarities between the two are striking, from the extended, hypnotic, and unfurling track formats, to the prominence of psychedelically charged/mind altering atmospherics, or even the simple purity of sound shared by the composers, meaning there's certainly a shared spirit embedded in there somewhere. Anyway, Shackleton turns in a beautiful revision of 'Sometimes In Autumn', teasing out wistful strands of the original over a fragile rhythmic framework, reminding of his equally stunning Moderat remix in the vast scope and elegant arrangement. Meanwhile, his former Skull Disco cohort Appleblim steps in with Komanazmuk on the flipside to reimagine 'By The Riverside', applying less subtle kick-drums and dubstep bass to the drifting synthesizer tones forming patterns in the upper echelons of the mix. So, Shackleton & Appleblim's mixes of Harmonia & Eno = Essential!
