subeena - Solidify
After a string of releases on the now-defunct Immigrant/Imminent imprint, Subeena returns with a unique spin of dubstep, nu-Soul R'n'B and techno electronica for Planet Mu. The A-side 'Solidify', featuring the tightly harmonised vocals of Jamie Woon and Sa-Ra's Om'Mas Keith, is just lovely, combining nu-soul and dubstep in a manner we've not heard before by using the sparse and blue potential of both sounds to create a silky-but-heavy backing for the luxurious vocal pairing. 'Analyse' on the flipside takes another tack entirely with a synth driven, mid-paced dancefloor-electronica cut, sitting in safe company on Planet Mu next to the likes of Few Nolder or Syntheme. Ace.
