the big pink - Dominos
One of the year's most memorable choruses comes in the shape of The Big Pink's "These girls fall like dominos" refrain, sounding like something from Merriweather Post Pavilion with all that album's weirder tendencies transplanted for a brick wall of bass and fizzy saturation. The verses are necessarily more low-key affairs and occasionally plunge into lyrical potholes, making references to "silver apples" or more likely, "Silver Apples" amongst a slew of pseudo-sentimental non-sequitors. Still, the chorus takes up about 80% of the song so everyone's a winner. The B-side is like a seasick Spiritualized track, all woozed out and trance-inducing with babbling, freewheeling electronics.
