indigo - Not Alone
Goodness! We've had our ears on this soundbwoy for some time now but we really weren't expecting anything of this calibre to come so soon. Indigo has rapidly been picking up a wave of support for his dubtech fusions of late, counting Modeselektor and Mary-Anne Hobbs as some of his biggest supporters. 'Not Alone' cements that respect with his finest productions to date, taking the dubtech formula and rewriting it to his own specifications. The title track immediately shows a sharp upswing in narrative development and production levels, riding super crisp hi-hat/kick syncopations into cybotronik breaks with the dynamic motion of pitchshifted Rufige Kru hardcore and perfectly deployed dub chord sweeps. Most notably his atmospheres are kept clear of any unneccessary cliches, opting for sparse but well selected stabs with hints, rather than smotherings, of darkness. 'Arcane' on the flip follows up with gently restrained melodies and a rolling undertow of reconfigured dub-house, while 'Exhale' should convert any non-believers on a shocking display of spatial organisation with a determindly futurist approach to rhythm construction. This is probably one of the best dubstep records we've heard all year and should be a staple in the boxes of any Peverelist, F or Ramadanman fans. Recommended!
