various / planet mu - The Mu School
Few labels can claim a roster as strong and varied as Planet Mu right now. It's basically a go-to imprint for all corners of the dubstep, UK Bass and electronica diaspora, with a release schedule boasting some of the years finest records, by this year's finest producers. 'The Mu School' gathers the best of the lot for a huge session, mapping out the development of the scene over the last 12 months or so with finesse and ambition. Jamie Vex'd starts with his magnificent 'In System Travel', before Boxcutter travels the same silicon coated route with the Foul Play sampling 2-step winner 'Mya rave v2'. Gemmy soups up with one of the years biggest purple shockers 'Supligen', before the achingly on-it Untold remixes Milanese's 'The End' with predictably essential results. Raffertie's 'Wobble Horror' caters for the kiddie ravers and Falty Dl does his sexytronic 2-step thing with 'Our Love', leading to the soul stunning 'K&G beat' from Floating Points, which is without a doubt one of the top tracks of the year. Starkey's 'Creature' blazes new paths for electro- acoustically mangled purple grime, while Brackles' 'LHC' just continues to frazzle our feet with the slickest shot of future steppers vibes, only just leaving room for label oddities Few Nolder and newbies Legion Of Two to finish up with disco trance and industro dub vibes for good measure. It's enough for at least three or four labels worth of releases but handily Mu draw a big wonky line through it all and serve it up in one highly informative lesson that you don't want to miss. Big!
