Despite being one of the weirder, more understated bands to accumulate truckloads of hype this year, The XX seem to be well on their way to converting that into genuine popularity out in the wider world, beyond the realm of taste-making blogs. 'Basic Space' is an undoubted highlight of The XX's debut album, and this EP arrives with an abundance of remixes giving the track a host of new shapes: Jamie XX leads the pack with his slick, ghostly dubstep overhaul complete with a memorable new bass hook. Picks of the bunch here are the mellifluous synth contortions of the Pariah remix and Diskjokke's great cosmic disco rework.
