the gaslamp killer - My Troubled Mind EP
The Gaslamp Killer brings his heavy monster sound to Flying Lotus' Brainfeeder imprint with a crushing EP of B-moving beats and sample archaeology. It was hard not to be impressed by his recent Finders Keepers mix, and we can safely say that if you were taken by it's intuitively ruff cut but studied techniques you'll be all over this one. Tracks range from minute long sketches of rerouted samples as on the two intro tracks, to club cut big beats on 'Anything Worse', polyphonic drum trips on 'Baiafro Electric', or Assault On Precinct 13 soundtrack homages on 'Ruskie Electric' for some well dug dramatics. Most impressive of the lot though, has to be the studio trickery of 'Birthday Music', panning sounds and FX to lysergic extremes for a brief glimpse into The GK's hairbrained psyche. Fans of everyone from Mr Scruff to Paul White to the Finders Keepers lot will deeply dig this - Killer set!
