LITTLE CLAW
little claw - Human Taste
Legend has it that Little Claw started life in the Eastern Seaboard blackout of 2003, when in Detroit, Michigan Heath Heemsbergen and Kilynn Lunsford found themselves short of something to do and so began jamming it out on acoustic guitars, blasting out of the darkness. A suitably romantic piece of rock & roll apocrypha if ever there was one. Little Claw have since moved away from their urban birthplace in favour of Portland, Oregon, prompting a change in personnel and a first release on Ecstatic Peace in the form of last year's Spit & Squalor, Swallow The Snow. For Human Taste the band haven't reined in their sound by any measure. The album spurts out art-punk filth at every turn, stewing in a pool of discordance, that births raw clangourous misanthropy like 'Frankie' and the indecipherable, fist-pumping screech of 'Modern Vampire'. Although terms like 'lo-fi' and 'garage' certainly apply here, there's no snappy, echo-chamber pop on offer a la Abe Vigoda and the in-vogue In The Red roster. Instead, Human Taste has more in common with bands like Magik Markers and at times (as on the drone-folk opus 'Golden Boy') Religious Knives.
