lone - Joy Reel / Sunset Teens
Prime pick from the Werk Discs camp delivering the first 12" from new signing Lone. The more clued up beat heads among you will remember his 'Lemurian' album from last year, a set which recieved critical acclaim from many corners of the industry falling for his sun-shot blend of post-Dilla hip-bop and shimmering synthlines akin to the likes of Flying Lotus or Werk bloke Lukid. 'Joyreel' is eerily reminiscent of prime Boards of Canada and classic electro-soul with crackin' handclaps and mottled rhythms sounding like he left the master tapes out in the sun for too long. 'Sunset Teens' on the flip steps on submerged 808's and an angular old-skool R&B flow with mesmerizingly hazy vibes to rock out of your car's boombox on blazing hot city days. This is only a taster for a heavyweight album due to drop very shortly and comes with a big recommendation!
