No doubt one of Europe's most important hubs for new electronic music, Amsterdam's Rush Hour label grew out of the record shop and distribution setup of the same name towards the turn of the century and has fast become one of the most vital and restless imprints of its kind anywhere in the world. With releases from a tidy core of artists as well as internationally respected godfathers like Carl Craig, Kenny Larkin and Rick Wade, the label has always had an interest in Techno and, in particular, Detroit Techno but there's a sprawling yet coherent aesthetic to their A&R policy that has seen the label broaden its horizons to explore areas on the periphery of the club scene (with the acclaimed Beat Dimensions compilations and Aardvarck's low-end wrecking 'Bloom' series just two notable additions over the label's very recent history). This 14 track selection offers a personal and highly selective look at the label throughout the years, hopefully encapsulating the thread that runs through its eclectic, deep and so often inspirational catalogue. Alongside Berlin's Hard Wax family of labels it would seem that Rush Hour have really framed themselves with a mark of consistency, innovation and quality that's become increasingly rare in electronic music...
