One of the loveliest of all the Drexciya-related releases ever - finally re-pressed!!!!! 'Sorrow and a cup of Joe' has turned into a sort of anthem here ever since we heard it for the first time the week that James Stinson passed away. Adorning the A Side of this deeply moving 12", this is quite simply a perfect slice of introspection from the sadly departed Drexciya and his poppiest of offshoots - The Other People Place. A simple narrative refrain - 'Only moccachino makes me feel alright' - graces a hauntingly simple textured construction of melody and a spacious, crisp beat. The Other People Place full-lengther on Warp was our album of the year for 2001, so we were already primed to worship. This simply perfect record, however, has left us bewildered, gasping for air, blown away. Sublime. The flipside, meanwhile, comes to us courtesy of legendary Carl Craig and Moodyman collaborators Urban Tribe, now rebranded and remoulded into a 2002 model - Mystic Tribe. 'Telepathic Seduction' is a stripped down Detroit groover : sloping basslines, luscious sweeps and a slow-paced Detroit aesthetic build into a reduced construction of atmosphere and space, organically mutated electronix lovingly crafted and pieced together from the heart of the Motor City. Astonishing stuff allround. Essential.
