osborne - Hovercrafting EP
Todd Osborn returns to sleaze up his Osborne project with a lubricated deep disco effort backed with a well shuffled Afro-house version from Arto Mwambe. A master of more styles than you can imagine, Todd Osborne has always reserved his slickest late night gear for his self titled project, perhaps because it's his most overtly soulful, or possibly because it gets him the finest Ladies, we'll probably never know but it's definitely making us a little moist. His original mix of 'Wait A Minute' brews up a pure deep disco/proto-house styled jam from bumping live drums, hazy Rhodes chords, talkbox vocals and guitar chops so smutty your ears will need protection while the Arto Mwambe remix thankfully eases up on the sex pest vibes with a very smart deep house version. Rolling on from an excellent set of remixes for Compost the other week, Mwambe's mix is perfectly proportioned with curvy synthlines in all the right places and a plump midtempo rumpbass settled under disco fired atmospherics. There's no sharp edges here so get nekkid and feel free to roll around. 'Fire' again draws for the slick guitar chops but in the format of a gleeful disco homage with symphonic strings and a steady pulsing backbeat, before 'The Count' completely switches styles to toughened Chicago house with quirky synth sequencing and an instrumental version of 'Wait A Minute' takes you full circle back to slickland again. For all the nu-disco heads it doesn't get much better than this.
