b12 - B12 Records Archive Volume 4
The invaluable reissue series of B12 releases reaches the fourth level with some 10 tracks recorded between '92 and '96 under their Redcell, B12 and CMetric aliases for their Warp and their own selt titled record label. It must be said that people simply don't make tracks like 'Captive Planet' any more, creating a dramatic fusion of 2nd wave Detroit techno structures and UK style "Intelligent techno" that still manages to sound otherworldy and arcane despite being slightly cliched nowadays. The four tracks taken from the 1992 Redcell 'Retreat From Unpleasant realities' 12" range from armchair head techno to killer electro tech on 'At The Edge' and comes with two bonus synth explorations to fully put you in their atmosphere. The second disc collects their work as CMetric onto CD for the first time since A.R.T's 'The Philosophy Of Sound And Machine' exploring similarly far-out artificial territories, but with a tougher techno sound on 'Cqual' or early Autechre alike electronic downbeats on 'Echo T.R.X 314'. Like the rest of the series this is housed in a lush gatefold double CD digipack and comes well recommended to any armchair electronica fiends.
