dorian concept - When Planets Explode
A kaleidoscopic myriad of skewed astrokrunk and neon burning synthlines from the hugely tipped Dorian Concept outta Vienna, Austria. Taking cues from the widest possible blend of sources, Dorian Concept has created a multi-facted album of immense quality and longevity, fusing technical jazz flair with intense programming skills, and strictly bumping beats with abstract electronica harmonics for a head sweltering affair. This album will find fans on all corners of the musical universe, from the anthemic 'The Fucking Formula' finding its way onto Benji B's Deviation sessions of broken beats and future jazz, to Mary-Anne Hobbs and Gille Peterson both championing his cause in a big way. Tracks like opener 'Clap Beep Boom' just refuse to be tied into any one particular rhythmic bracket, instead preferring to buck and wriggle through patterns with an intuitively live feel only made possible through intense programming. The hyperpitched vortex of 'Mesh Beam Splitter' could even appeal to fans of Hecker and super technical electronics, while 'Her Marshmallow Secret' is post-Dilla by some 100 years. Dabrye, Prefuse 73 and John Coltrane are all names bandied around in comparison of Dorian Concept, but it's really all it's own sound and begs your attention as soon as! Tip!
