In the heyday of IDM, the Cottage Industries series was an indispensible guide to the varied terrain of electronica and electro, so it's lovely to see the label back under new management and with a new installment with it's finger on the pulse of current styles The latest edition is compiled by Martin Hirsch and while still leaning toward the reflective IDM and 'tronica of yesteryear, looks to the future or more correctly the present, with a largely 4/4 driven selection on the first CD including tracks from Move D, Benjamin Brunn, Remote, A Made Up Sound's excellent 'Density', Fluxion and MXM. The second disc delicately moves through more typical electronica and ambient textures with tracks from kangding ray, Maps and Diagrams SevenArk, Nacht Plank and Shuntaro Aoki and loads more. With 30 tracks spread over 2 CD's there definitely enough to keep you going til the next installment. Very good indeed.
