With the year almost out we thought it the right time to single out our picks for 2008, this being the first selection of highlights from what's been a brilliantly varied and exciting year for new music. We've particularly enjoyed the ever-evolving face of Bass music, from Wonky to Bassline and Funky, to Dubstep, Techno and our favourite kind of woozy, narcotic House - all typified by tracks from the likes of Pangaea, Martyn, Newworldaquarium, Actress, Headhunter and Hudmo keeping it fresh. In sharp contrast, we've been bewitched by the displaced post-ambience, shortwave radio signals and sparkling drones of Stephan Mathieu and the Fun Years - producing two of the most absorbing albums you'll have the pleasure of hearing this year.
