hatchback - Colors Of The Sun
Lo Recordings have established quite a rep for themselves as cosmic disco connoisseurs, bringing to light Black Devil Disco Club releases and compiling a fine set of Italo-themed goodness on last year's Milky Disco album. Now, thanks to the somewhat humbly named Hatchback (aka Californian producer Samuel Milton Grawe), the label return to that sort of form, throwing in a decent helping of krautrock precision and intensity on tracks like 'Everything Is Neu' (the clue's in the title, I suppose), and the dreamy, pulsating 'White Diamond', sounding like a combination of the Nordic school of disco revisionism and Tangerine Dream. Strong stuff all round, and it even works well as an album, matching all those beat-driven hoedowns with more pensive synthscape outings, culminating in the minor key majesty of the Vangelis-esque 'Horizon'.
