GIUSEPPE IELASI
giuseppe ielasi - Stunt
Stunt was originally conceived as the first in a series of three vinyl EPs from Giuseppe Ielasi, who for the moment at least, seems to abandon the stylistic hallmarks that have characterised his earlier work in favour of music characterised by turntablist techniques. The music here is comparable to the kind of output that's made the work of erikm, Otomo Yoshihide, and to a certain extent, Janek Schaefer. Ielasi cuts between various stuttering sound sources, compiling an erratic collage of unstable plunderphonics, hiss and crackle. Much of Stunt is markedly less technically fixated than the sort of material that brought Ielasi to wider attention via 12k, although there is a vintage electroacoustic sound to all this, and as the EP goes on, a more pronouncedly rhythmic feel reveals itself, with the fast cuts shaping a sound not dissimilar to the kind of percussive edits that characterised certain examples of early tape music.
