shed - Shedding The Past
Easily one of our most anticipated releases of recent months, the long awaited 'Shedding the past' long player from Berlin/Detroit techno engineer Shed has finally rolled off the OstGut Ton production line. Shed's numerous 12"s for his own Soloaction imprint, and a succession of tracks for everyone from Styrax Leaves to Delsin, alongside a number of anonymous club tools for Hardwax, have become the purest source of Berlin engineered Detroit techno available and new Shed gear is greeted with much love around these parts. The Soloaction/Shed sound is so special because, like the work of only the best producers, it manages the consolidate disparate rhythms and genres, in this instance from Kevin Saunderson styled club sensibilities with the timeless emotional melodic quality of Drexicya and the early hardcore genetics of Manix or classic Aphex for an irresistable sound that has set this producer way out on his own. The CD version of the album is programmed to make slight concessions for the home listening crew, with a set that develops through alleviated Detroit club tools, via spine chilling ambient moments, and onto a movement of vigourous techno killers from the shockingly heavy 'That Beats everything' to the undoubted highlight of 'Estrange' with the ghosts of classic Aphex rave techno meeting a study on Carl Craig and 2562 style dubstep for easily one of the finest tracks you'll hear this year. This is a huge recommendation for any techno fans whose faith may have wained in recent months with the proliferation of mnml, and require some pure and undiluted emotion back in their music. Killer.
