part timer - Out Of The Blue
Another bewitching release from Part Timer on Flau, Out Of The Blue serves as a companion piece to John McCaffrey's Blue album. These five tracks make for an ideally proportioned dosage of the Part Timer sound, showcasing the various aspects of McCaffrey's understated, ramshackle sound. On 'Song' he even starts getting vocal, double tracking an intensely morose, hushed up melody, with gentle guitar and piano instrumentation to match. There are some quietly haunting ambient sounds buried deep in the mix, revealing themselves during voiceless passages, all of which seems superficially quite different from the more familiar, Kim Hiorthoy-esque folktronics of 'Cano (Rat Permit Version)' and 'Big Waltz', but nonetheless, it retains that same sense of intimacy and warmth. The EP closes on another song: the Nicola Hodgkinson (Empress, Remote Viewer) voiced 'Break In Two', which occupies a terrain so frequently visited by the Moteer crew, conjuring up intricately fashioned, yet ultimately very human sounding electronics, characterised by a real sense of effortlessness and grace.
