No Pain In Pop deliver this reissue of an engaging debut album by LA-based artist/multi-instrumentalist Lionel Williams aka Vinyl Williams. 'Lemniscate' occupies an unstable ground between shoegazing dream-pop, artsier prog-rock and kosmiche music without tangibly subscribing to their cliches, instead setting his own ground with signature melodic lushness and instinctively complex arrangement. It's a genuinely psychedelic sound, suitably rendered with subtly teasing FX in a shimmer of ethereal, layered construction notably handled in its entirety by the artist - from production to mixing to singing and playing. Imagine Radiohead meeting Ariel Pink to discuss their mutual love of Stereolab, and they might end up making something that sounds like this.
