chihei hatakeyama & asuna - Scale Compositions
Home Normal look to Japan and the compatible duo Chihei Hatakeyama and Asuna for this lush pair of extended microtonal drone experiments. The first 'Crown Scales' almost imperceptibly shifts across a polychromatic wash of tingling tones for 24 minutes, conducted with a steady hand and soporific intent. The shorter 'Folk Scales' is perhaps more subdued and quieter, but with a hypnotic resonance and glacial pace that almost reminds us of certain bits from Kevin Drumm's 'Imperial Distortion'. Both pieces were recorded in Japan in January 2009.
