various - Si Con
Artefact have done an amazing job of compiling the finest underground Japanese instrumental Hip Hop with ‘Si Con’. With DJ Krush the only Japanese turntablist known in the West, this compilation is a fascinating collection of tracks from a market that is seemingly impenetrable. Headroc’s ‘Brand nu rock’ sets the scene for some truly ingenious productions from artists such as DJ Shun, DJ Bishop and Asa whose ‘Stumble’ is a backbeat monster. Krush collaborator DJ Yoh pops up with the break heavy ‘mr 2’. Koji Sekiguchi’s ‘426 phenomenon’ is a beautiful, dubbed out affair that is truly meditative in it’s outlook. The French connection is completed with DJ Cam and Seep delivering two fine remixes at the end of the CD. A long overdue collection of Japanese Hip Hop that stands as a testament to the skill of these superb producers. Recommended.
