tape loop orchestra - The Word On My Lips Is Your Name
**Double disc housed in bespoke gatefold slipcase - limited to 400 copies only** Tape Loop Orchestra is the work of The Boats' Andrew Hargreaves'. It's the place where he shares his most soporific thoughts and personal emotions in ferric-saturated sound. His output under this moniker is scant; just a small handful of micro-run CDrs on boutique imprints Ono and Lacies Records exist, so this double disc edition is certainly his most substantial, and quite possibly (in fact: it is) his most beautiful to date. Disc 1: "a compendium of tape loop experiments recorded in the dark days of November 2010 to June 2011" entitled 'The Word On My Lips Is Your Name' credits his bandmate from The Boats, Danny Norbury on Cello. But, to be fair, it's hard to distinguish any singular instrument or source from the others within his dream-like states: all edges and textures are smudged to an etherically numb blur. Crucially, the only discernible elements are his heartbreaking melodies; ghostly, intangible figures whose characteristics resemble any loved one you'd care to superimpose. Disc 2: Tape Loop Orchestra performs 'The Burnley Brass band Plays On In My Heart'. Recorded "in the dog days of September 2011" we can glean the warmer presence of wide, expansive synth pads and fragments of stray bleeps chiming in the murk, relative beacons of hope compared to the crushed mood of the other disc. Lovely.
