prinzhorn dance school - Clay Class
DFA's British attachés for spiky, stripped-down post-punk present a confidently stark second album. The followup to their eponymous 2007 LP apparently promises a slightly more optimistic outlook "In response to the warmth they'd experienced playing live to responsive crowds all across Europe, Robin Prinz (voice, guitar, drums) and Suzi Horn (voice, bass, drums) were determined "to bring some colour and some tenderness" to their second album. "If you're going to face up to really difficult underlying themes", says Prinz, "sometimes the best way to do that is to let a bit of optimism in there"… but to be totally fair, they're still far removed from anything remotely chuffy. Perhaps it's there in the lyrics, but we've not got time to disseminate them. Ostensibly, sonically they're still reservedly sombre, but there are little lifts that bely some warmth and wit behind their sceptical, pensive minimalism.
