chairlift - Something
Young Turks present the anticipated UK release of Chairlift's sophomore album, 'Something'. Pop pickers should be first alerted to the fact that 'Something' is produced by Dan Carey, whose production / writing /r emixing credits include everyone from M.I.A. to Lily Allen and The Kills, and also Alan Moulder whose CV boasts work with My Bloody Valentine and Depeche Mode - just so you know what we're dealing with. Together with Chairlift they've achieved an arguably massive sound, weaving the shiniest '80s megapop hooks with timelessly ethereal vocals, disco-prime basslines and the sort of arrangements which beg you to come back and explore them over and again. After listening to the likes of dream-sequence drifter 'Turning' or the magically cloudy 'Cool As A Fire' it should come as no surprise that singer Caroline Polachek has already collaborated with Washed Out on 'You and I', although her co-pilot Patrick Wimberly's connections to Das Racist are less obvious, although may account for the subliminal, underlying sinister tone which gives the group headspace beyond the more clean cut dream-pop types.
