tarwater - Dwellers On The Threshold (2011 Edition)
*2011 reissue on Gusstaff* Another gorgeous hybrid of electronic structures, accoustic washes and vocal pop from To Rococo Rot's bastard brother of a band - Tarwater. Following on from the cinematic expanses of the 'Silur' album and the poppier edge of 'Suns, Animals, Atoms', 'Dwellers..' finds itself sitting magnificently inbetween the two - exploring multi-layered instrumentation augmented by electronic manipulation and Ronald Lippok's awkward, mesmerisng voice. Tracks like '1985' ooze a deliciously nostalgic and sun-drenched aura, strings, bass, delictaely strummed accoustic guitars and studied narration parcelled and strapped in sweetness and light. 'Now', meanwhile, explores much deeper terrain, augmented by more overtly electronic techniques and cinematic enhancements - the mood is decidedly vast and airy. A satisfying and enjoyable album.
