In Pink

When searching for some info on Google for this album, the latest from Larsen and XXL man Fabrizo Modonese Palumbo to be exact, I managed to stumble across something a little worrying. Written by a member of the public claiming to be 17 years old (I have a feeling she could have been younger, if it really was a she that is) this was something of a fan site for American recording artist Pink, but was written in what can only be described as code. From what I could work out through the mud of Americanisms and textual shortcomings this young lass thinks that you can never truly die a virgin because (in her words) 'The World Screws Us All Ova!!!'. This got me thinking, and as I listened to the crumbling post-post-rock of 'In Pink' I was somewhat troubled by this young lasses statement. Maybe she was saying something quite profound or maybe she was just being hideously inane, but whatever it was the listening of the album would be coloured for ever by my thoughts of being screwed by the world. Surely you're responsible for your own destiny, well, that's at least what I believed before browsing Bebo - and it took nearly forty minutes more listening to (r) before I got my senses back. You see the music of Palumbo has that innate ability to wrap you up and convince you that everything's going to be alright - though the use of his relaxed ambient textures, his delicate voice or his slowly building guitar parts Palumbo just manages to err on the right side of warm and never slips into the territory of audio wallpaper. Post rock might not be the most fashionable genre in the world at the moment but it's nice to see some musicians using the template in a totally different way.
