dwayne omarr - Multi Funk
Hell, yeah! Obscure electrofunk legend Dwayne Omarr puts in an unexpected turn on Rephlex with a collection of classic jams, exclusive dubs and brand new tracks. You can forgive yourself for not knowing who he is, because nobody else does either! He's one of those cats who's remained behind the scenes, preferring to stay in the studio and lay down deadly, futuristic funk. A multi-instrumentalist of virtuoso talent, Dwayne starred on TV at the age of 14 before studying at the New England Conservatory of Music, and Berklee College of Music in Boston and traveling to New York in 1978 to record the cult hit single 'Bush Beat' for the Slyck project on Solid Platinum Records. In 1982 he collaborated with Maurice Starr on this albums classic opener 'This Party's Jam Packed', and in '84 knocked out the damn deadly electrofunk rocker 'Breakdown New York Style', also included here. In '85 he served the hard-assed 'Save The Children', included here as a dub, before moving to Miami in '86 and laying down the business class Bass bomb 'Mr Gigolo', which is still sought after to this day. There's also three new cuts (although we couldn't confirm the date of production), featuring the greased-out 'Multi Funk', a Prince-style Linn drum rocker 'Annointed One' (indeed!) and the dutty slow jam 'Omarr Rocks The Nation'. 100% guaranteed to get you sprung, whatever your persuasion.
