rykarda parasol - For Blood And Wine
A singer-songwriter in the mould of Nick Cave (albeit a female version of…), Rykarda Parasol has a pitch-black blues rock drawl it’s impossible not to get sucked in by. She describes her style as rock-noir and who am I to disagree, with vocal tones as church-burningly decadent as Siouxsie Sioux, powerful imagery erupts throughout the album. Parasol has a poetic quality to what she does, and a literary gravity to her lyrics. Funnily enough that’s unusual right now in an age of dreary Coldplay quasi-cover bands, and it comes as a welcome relief from that mire of boredom. With shimmering, haunting dittiess that will embed themselves just below the skin, Rykarda Parasol should appeal to anyone looking to endulge themselves in the seamier side of life.
