turzi - Turzi
First UK CD issue of Turzi's 2009 fusion of continental and Teutonic '70s rock tropes, entitled 'B'. Since their first LP in '07 they've accrued some famous fans including Primal Scream's Bobby Gillespie and and Brigitte Fontaine, both of whom make guest appearances. Lead by visionary multi-instrumentalist Romain Turzi, the group (we're gonna have to write their names: Sky Over, Hard Dick Gunter, Judah Warsky and Arthur Rambo) are known in their native France, or Paris to be exact, for frenetic improvised live shows and a sound that's influenced as much by the widescreen virtues of Ennio Morricone as Ash Ra Tempel's driving Krautrock psychedelia. For 'B' they've coloured their sound with a wealth of instrumental flourishes provided by bouzouki, sitar, cimbalom, violin, folk and classical guitars, all deployed with consummate skill and ambition. Mr Gillespie turns up on the album's pop-rockiest moment 'Baltimore' sandwiched between pure electronic pulses of 'Brasilia' and the submerged Raga of 'Bethlehem', while legendary avant-garde vocalist, Brigitte Fontaine figures in wraithlike fashion on the kosmiche pinnacle of 'Bamako'.
