**2011 Tri Angle Edition** Joining the ranks of Salem and the Tri Angle label, Tom Krell's 'How To Dress Well' project has garnered considerable attention since he first started dropping material about a year ago. Charged by the same fascination with R&B, submerged production techniques and enough fuzz and distortion to satiate the most intoxicated listener, his debut album throws you into a trip though many of the signatures that have made the U.S. electronic underground so compelling and forward thinking over the last 18 months. Ok, many of the ideas are driven by the same retroactive archetypes that fuel so much of what has fallen into the Hypnagogic, Hauntological and W**ch House scenes, but the ability to elicit those feelings without any overtly emotive signatures is what makes the music so satisfying. There's just a coherence and narrative to the tracklisting that works extremely well, leaving you with an over-arching sense of melancholy that perhaps you weren't really expecting if you've ever listened to, say, a track by Salem. The 14 tracks on 'Love Remains' are taken from a number of different self-released EP's and the material has been remastered - with the distortion and washed out feel kept firmly intact. There are moments that recall the most personal recordings and outtakes of Arthur Russell and others that sparkle with the same bittersweet glamour of Nite Jewel, but if you've fallen in love with records by either, or indeed that magnificent oOoOO EP, 'Love Remains' will just rule your world. Highly Recommended.
