zeitkratzer / whitehouse - Whitehouse Electronics
Reinhold Friedl's renowned experimental troupe tackle interpretations of Whitehouse classics, avoiding the use of electronics altogether and instead recreating the uncompromising noise pioneered by William Bennett using only amplified classical instruments. Among the performers are harpist Rhodri Davies, trumpeter Matt Davis, trombonist (and recent Machinefabriek collaborator) Hilary Jeffery and Friedl himself, who takes to the piano. William Bennett has a hand in the release too, collaborating on rehearsals and the mixing process. Although the very premise of this album sounds potentially fairly absurd, Zeitkratzer have a history of making seemingly unlikely projects come together - the ensemble have previously worked in a similar capacity with Keiji Haino, Lou Reed, Carsten Nicolai and Terre Thaemltz, all with intriguing results. This Whitehouse tribute might be the most extreme of them all, stretching the sonic capabilities of classical instrumentation far beyond charted territory.
