various / turkish freakout joe - Turkish Freakout: Psych-Folk 1969-1980
Bouzouki Joe records have probably just got a heap of cats wetting themselves with excitement over 'Turkish Freakout'; a collection of 18 psych-folk singles from 1969-1980. The scene has been respectfully plundered by the Finders Keepers stable of late, resulting in a reissued album from Ersen who's included twice here, alongside the well known Baris Manco and original Turkish rock legend Erkin Koray, among others. As evidenced from listening to these fiery grooves, psyche rock hit hard in 1970s Turkey, blending with the passionate nature of their native pop to create a majestic, exotic and undeniably heavy brand of psychedelia. Therefore, many of these records now cost an arm and a leg due to their unique position in the psyche canon, and recorded music in general! From crowdpleasers like Apasalar's garage-tinged 'Gilgamis' to the politicised wail of Cem Karaka's 'Uryan Geldim', to the contrast of feminine emotion and turbulent rhythmic grind of Ajda Pekkan's 'Kaderimin Oyunu' newcomers will be shocked, and heads will be rubbing themselves with glee at the expensive rarities on display. Also comes with informative liner notes from Bouzouki Joe.
