k-x-p - K-X-P
KXP are a Finnish trio based around the lynchpin of Timo Kaukolampi, best known for his work in Op:l Bastards and The Lefthanded, though recently he's also come to wider attention for producing and co-writing with Scando-pop starlet, Annie. Kaukolampi's fellow bandmates have considerable experience under their belts too, with links to Jimi Tenor, Pekka Pohjola and Aavikko. The main influences shared by the trio are cited as Raymond Scott, Moondog and Martin Rev and you'll hear a gritty, electronic propulsion pulling the strings throughout this album, bringing to mind a slew of classic krautrock bands, This Heat, Silver Apples and one or two poppier reference points too. One of these comes early on with the memorable glam-rock stomp of '18 Hours (Of Love)' - a break from the more focused and serious motorik work that dominates this fine album's landscape.
