kenseth thibideau - Repetition
As a founding member of Tarantel, and particpant in about a dozen or so other projects, including Sleeping Poeple with Dirty Projectors' Amber Coffmer, Kenseth Thibdeau is a pivotal figure in the SoCal indie scene. 'Repetition is his debut solo album, a meditative set taking cues from the more pastoral side of Krautrock, but with a slow motorik charge that warrants the title. That's probably best heard on the circular bass riffs and shimmering synth of 'Moon 5', lulling us into a Can or Cluster like groove with effortless grace. 'Eclipse' applies his hushed, understated vocals to wispy guitar lines somewhere between Gottsching and Durutti Column wheras 'Moon 2' drives forward with an sharply contrasting urgency nodding to Battles and we end on the twinkling Spiritualized vibes of 'Lost'. Imagine lush Bavarian countryside replaced with gently bleak Americana scape and you've got his style.
