female - Into The Exotic
Female aka Peter Sutton surely ranks as one of the finest techno exports the UK has produced. Alongside Karl O'Connor (Regis) he's defined the industrial techno landscape with his Downwards label and a hugely cherished handful of groundbreaking releases. 'Into The Exotic' was his first album, released in 1997 and displaying the first strains of his unique rhythmic constructions. From the concatenated latin shuffle of 'Disturbance Pt.1' to the sludgy samba kink of 'Contact' and 'Cold Steel's concentrated syncopations, this album is one of the finest examples of industrial techno in existence. Sutton manages to retain the harsness of the finest Regis or Surgeon tracks from this period, but imbues them with a sly slink and broader rhythmic scope that makes this an essential document of electronic history. A big recommendation!
