mesa ritual - Voltaic Processions
STRICTLY LIMITED COPIES ONLY. Fellow desert dwellers, William Fowler Collins and Raven Chacon, both of Albuquerque, New Mexico, combine talents on an extraordinary 20 minute composition for Sick Sick Sick Distro. 'Mesa Ritual' is described by the label as "two large piles of highly magnetic instruments standing too close to each other, yet walking toward you. Electric not electronic" which resonates acutely with elemental dynamics and imagery of endless pylons sketched on the jewel case facia. Over the duration, the track is constructed from a raw stream of bristling electrical disturbance, channelling a flow of fluidly-manipulated and dangerously alive current as though some shamen were playing a sub-station like a theremin in the middle of a hurricane. The pair create a vivid scene of amorphous sub-sonic oscillations and vast swathes of flickering, naked blue electricity, swarming like TV static with an intense kinetic frequency that's only just recognizable as the product of human interaction through the sculpted arrangement. Seemingly random surges and untethered gusts eventually coalesce to reveal a swirling melodic core during a brief window of reflection, before the sound swells once again and the air is charged with angry particles colliding in infinitesimal patterns. Comparisons for this sound could reach from Joe Banks' experiments as Disinformation to the purified strains of Mika Vainio or Kevin Drumm, but this is an entirely unique performance that deserves to regarded as such. Headphone listening is advised for those who seek real intense experiences. Awesome.
