psychonauts - Songs For Creatures
The Psychonauts return with a new album for Hell's Gigolo label, with special guests including James Yorkston (Domino), ex Bananarama warbler Siobahn Fahey and others. Much feted by the media this album shows the Psychonauts spreading their wings and covering a lot of ground, from the cinematic Axelrod vibes of the opener 'Circles', to the pulsing analog disco of 'Empty Love' and the swirling techy 'Fear is Real'. There is an 80's undercurrent harking back to the innocent days of synth pop as on the Pet Shop Boys-esque 'World Keeps Turning' with its melodramatic vocals and playful simple synths and also the dreamy, easy breakbeat of 'Dream Chaser' which melts analog strings and synths with what sounds like a dash of pedal steel guitar floating in the background.
